Through colours and scents of Conero Riviera
The Conero coastline is a very wonderful and unique landscape in its gender, where cliffs and mountains fall sheer into the sea. You can find on the internet numerous images illustrating this side of Adriatic coast; but, seeing it and, moreover, living it by yourself is a very unique experience. Too many compliments? We say absolutely not! Travelling through Ancona, far ten mins by car from the city centre and the port, and not more than 15mins from highway entrance of Ancona Sud, you will be astonished by Conero Mountain and by its enchanting small coves hiding the beaches characterizing Riviera and that cannot envy anything to the more blazoned sea spots.
Perfume and colors make so charming this place with its postcard-like exclusive landscapes. Coming from the city centre, as you get near Riviera you can see the shape of Conero Mountain dominating this side of the coastline, with its intense green alternating cultivated fields – moreover vineyards – that are randomly colored with bright violet of lavender with its fascinating scent.
Before taking the way down to the seaside, just after the roundabout, it is an obligation to make a stop and stare on the “belvedere” located on your left showing the splendid beach named “Mezzavalle”; this is the preferred beach by Ancona inhabitants, very calm and unpolluted, reachable via sea or by hard little path situated some hundreds metres before the above mentioned roundabout.
During summer time and after your relaxing sea bath, you can visit some of the extraordinary constructions falling sheer into the sea: the Fortino Napoleonico (the Napoleonic Fort), the Torre di Guardia (the Watch Tower) and the Church of Santa Maria di Portonovo.
Having some hours to spend before leaving Ancona, we suggest you to have a short trip and visit the other side of Conero Mountain, where there are Sirolo and Numana; they are two small and full of local colours villages falling sheer into the Adriatic Sea.
