Upon one of these hills, routing the way that drives to Portonovo (wonderful and peculiar seaside locale area), and far few kms from Ancona with an height of 187 mts o.s.l., it rises the ancient group of houses of “Pietralacroce” from where rotating of 180 degrees, sea and Appennini mountains mix our sight up into a unique landscape.
Here in this Hermitage stands up one of the fortresses of Ancona, the historical Forte Altavilla that together with Forte Garibaldi (ex Forte Umberto) was part of the second defensive line of the town. A wide trench protected the fort from land attacks and brick made walls, provided with loopholes, gave possibility to shoot either with cannons and with rifles.
